THE GERMAN OFFENSIVE OF 23 JUNE 1916

PART 1 – THIAUMONT AND FROIDETERRE

Duration: two hours.

Distance: five kilometres.

This walk covers the assault on the Thiaumont and Froideterre fieldworks by units of the 1st Bavarian Infantry Division on 23 June 1916. It is covered by IGN maps 3112 ET and Blue Series 3212 Ouest. There is a short steep section on the approach to Froideterre and another of approximately 400 metres at the end of the walk but the rest is either level or downhill. It is likely to be muddy throughout the year.
